Intro to AI Engineering is designed as an accessible entry point. Students do not need previous experience with Python, AI, machine learning, cloud computing, or Microsoft Azure.
Introduction to AI Engineering
Intro to AI Engineering is an 11-session, hands-on AI workforce-readiness course for students in grades 8–11. Through coding, AI literacy, prompt engineering, Responsible AI, data, AI applications, engineering problem-solving, industry exploration, and an AI For Impact Challenge, students learn how AI works, how to use and evaluate it responsibly, how to begin building with AI, and how AI connects to future education and career opportunities. The course is aligned to the Innovate Tech X AI Workforce Readiness Framework and serves as the foundational entry point into the Innovate Tech X AI Engineering Pathway.

Does my student need coding experience?
No. Intro to AI Engineering™ is designed as a foundational course, so no previous coding or AI experience is required. Students begin with coding fundamentals and build their skills progressively through hands-on activities, guided labs, and projects.
Is this only for students who want to become AI engineers?
Not at all. The course introduces students to AI, coding, responsible technology use, problem-solving, and career pathways that can apply across many industries. Whether your student is already interested in technology or is simply exploring what they might want to do in the future, the goal is to help them build skills and better understand opportunities in an AI-powered workforce.
What will my student actually do?
Students won't just learn about AI, they'll use it. Across 11 sessions, students participate in coding and AI labs, explore prompt engineering and Responsible AI, work with data, examine how AI systems and workflows are built, explore careers, and complete the AI For Impact Challenge. Students also build an AI Workforce Readiness Portfolio that provides evidence of what they learned and created.
What happens if my student misses a session?
We understand that schedules and unexpected conflicts happen. Students should attend as consistently as possible because the course is hands-on and each session builds on previous learning. If your student must miss a session, contact Innovate Tech X so we can provide guidance on the material and activities they need to catch up on.
What technology does my student need?
Students will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection that can support the course's online learning activities, coding exercises, and AI tools. Specific account and technology setup instructions will be provided to enrolled families before the course begins.
How much is tuition?
Tuition for Intro to AI Engineering is $399. This includes 11 instructor-led sessions totaling 16.5 hours, hands-on labs and projects, the AI For Impact Challenge, an AI Workforce Readiness Portfolio, and a Certificate of Completion.
What happens after Intro to AI Engineering?
Intro to AI Engineering™ is the foundational entry point into the Innovate Tech X AI Engineering Pathway. Students who want to continue can progress into the AI Engineer Certification Boot Camp, followed by applied internship/apprenticeship experiences and eventually Advanced AI Engineering. Families can decide which next step makes sense based on the student's interests and goals.
